Expanding the HCM City – Long Thanh Expressway & Building the Long Thanh 2 Bridge - Enhancing connectivity with Long Thanh Airport
19/09/2025
Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province are accelerating a series of transportation infrastructure projects to strengthen regional connectivity, especially as Long Thanh International Airport is set to begin operations in the near future. Recently, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) started the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway from four lanes to eight or ten lanes. With a total investment of nearly VND 15 trillion, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The expanded Long Thanh Bridge is scheduled to see its main span connected in December 2026, with full completion by March 2027, helping to ease congestion on this vital transport corridor.

Alongside the expressway expansion, the two localities are also discussing the construction of three major bridges directly linking Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai. For the Cat Lai Bridge, Ho Chi Minh City has proposed that Dong Nai study an investment plan under a public–private partnership (PPP) model for the entire project, including the bridge and access roads on both sides. A separate section of the route will be developed as an independent project with state capital participation to serve as a basis for comparison and selection of the most suitable investment option. Regarding Phu My 2 Bridge, both sides have agreed on the length of the access road on the Dong Nai side reaching Lien Cang Road, while further extension of the route is being proposed to enhance overall project efficiency.

Meanwhile, the Dong Nai 2 Bridge project is undergoing joint review by both local governments to reassess its scale, alignment, and related planning schemes in order to identify the optimal solution. Once all three bridges are constructed, connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai will be significantly improved, providing multiple travel routes and substantially reducing pressure on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh Expressway, thereby supporting future regional mobility and economic growth.
