Groundbreaking for the overpass on HCM City's Ring Road 2, a part of the My Thuy intersection construction project

14/03/2025

On March 14, 2025, the HCM City Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority (TCIP) officially commenced phase 3 of the My Thuy intersection construction project in Thu Duc City. This phase includes two major construction components, the first is the construction of the right branch overpass on the Ring Road 2, and the second is the construction of the right branch of the Ky Ha 3 bridge. The My Thuy intersection project is expected to resolve the prolonged traffic congestion at the eastern gateway of HCM City, particularly along the road connecting to Cat Lai Port.

The My Thuy intersection construction project has a total investment of over VND 3,400 billion. Among this, the total construction cost for all three phases is VND 1,826 billion, while the cost for land clearance compensation and resettlement amounts to VND 1,623 billion. The total affected area covers 16.6 hectares, with 195 households requiring land handover. My Thuy is a transportation hub connecting major routes such as Nguyen Thi Dinh, Dong Van Cong, Vo Chi Cong and Phu My Bridge, so this area experiences a very high density of vehicles, especially freight transport vehicles. For many years, this area has been one of the hotspots for traffic congestion and accidents in Ho Chi Minh City.

My Thuy intersection features a complex multi-level structure, including two overpasses on Vo Chi Cong road (HCM City's Ring Road 2), a left-turn overpass from Cat Lai to Phu My bridge, a left-turn underpass from Vo Chi Cong road to Cat Lai, My Thuy 3 bridge, Ky Ha 3 bridge, Ky Ha 4 bridge and an underpass for motorbikes on Nguyen Thi Dinh road. The project is divided into three phases, with some components from phases 1 and 2 having been put into use from 2019 to 2021. Since the end of 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has accelerated the construction of the remaining components, such as the left-turn overpass from Cat Lai to Phu My and Ky Ha 4 bridge. The phase 3 of the project, which was launched today, will further complete the right branch overpass on Vo Chi Cong road and the right branch of the Ky Ha 3 bridge.

Thien An Construction and Mechanical Company Limited is honored to be selected as the main and independent contractor for the construction of the right branch overpass on HCM City's Ring Road 2. This is a class II bridge featuring four traffic lanes, a design speed of 60 km/h, design loading capacity in accordance with the HL-93 standard and a design lifespan of 100 years. The overpass comprises a structure with 6 continuous spans of prestressed reinforced concrete box girders, a total width including guardrails of 16.9m, a bridge length up to the abutment edge of 316.2m, and a total length (including the bridge and the approaching roads at both ends) of 700m. The project is scheduled to be completed after 390 days from the commencement date.
