Inauguration of Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, connecting District 1 and Thu Duc city, a new symbol of Ho Chi Minh city

Stretching nearly 1.5 kilometers across the Saigon River, the Thu Thiem 2 Bridge provides six lanes for smooth traffic flow. The bridge's main section, a cable-stayed marvel, spans 886 meters and features a towering 113-meter main pylon. The design of the bridge is particularly striking when viewed from any sides, with its elegant curves adding a touch of artistic flair to the Saigon River. As a new modern landmark for Ho Chi Minh City, this architecturally impressive bridge connects District 1 with Thu Duc City. Construction began from February 2015 and took over seven years to complete.

At the inauguration ceremony of the Thu Thiem 2 bridge, on the morning of April 28^th, 2022, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized that this is one of the key transportation projects of Ho Chi Minh City, supported by expectations of people and City's leaders for many years. The bridge will contribute to alleviate traffic congestion significantly on Nguyen Huu Canh Street and the Saigon River Tunnel (Thu Thiem Tunnel).
 

 

After the inauguration ceremony, Thu Thiem 2 bridge will be put into operation immediately. According to the approved plan, there are four bridges and one tunnel connecting Thu Thiem new urban area with the city's center. It is known that recently Ho Chi Minh City's authorities agreed with the proposal of naming 4 Thu Thiem bridges in the following order: Thu Thiem, Ba Son, Thu Ngu and Ben Nghe, these names all honor famous landmarks of the city. Thus, the newly inaugurated Thu Thiem 2 bridge will soon be known as Ba Son bridge.
