Construction began on March 24
th, 2019. As of now, the 50,000 DWT port structure is 83% complete. The leveling and foundation work of phase 2 is nearly 90% finished, and pile construction is 98% complete. Additionally, the depth in front of the wharf has been increased to -11.6 meters. Installation of 3 tire-wheel cranes and 2 gantry cranes in the container yard and wharf areas is also underway. Chu Lai Port's administration and its contractors maintain strict control over work efficiency and labor safety throughout the construction process.
Contractors are working tirelessly to finalize construction to hand over the new wharf, which has been slated to commence operations in the second quarter of 2024. Despite challenging bad weather conditions in late November, dedicated teams of workers, engineers, and experts are committed to completing the 50,000 DWT port project on schedule. Upon completion, the port's length will extend to 836 meters, enabling Chu Lai Port to accommodate container ships of up to 50,000 DWT. This expansion will significantly enhance the logistics supply chain, boost import and export activities, stimulate regional economic growth, and fully leverage the area's potential.
Chu Lai International Port has stated that the port is prioritizing strategic investments to enhance its capabilities and meet the growing import and export demands of businesses. By completing key projects and upgrading infrastructure, equipment, and operations, Chu Lai aims to become a vital logistics hub for the Central region. The port projected to handle 5 million tons of cargo in 2023, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the local and surrounding areas.
