Contract award and groundbreaking ceremony for the package 1A of the Metro line No. 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien project

The Management Authority For Urban Railway (MAUR) of Ho Chi Minh City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an underground section from Ben Thanh station to Opera House station of the metro line No.1 Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien. The Sumitomo Mitsui Construction – Cienco 4 contractor joint venture won the bidding package No.1A with a bid of 4.85 trillion VND (218 million USD). The bidding work was conducted in July 2015 and completed in April 2016. The negotiations then took place from May 2016, resulting in a signed contract in October 2016.
 

The contract package 1A is a critical element for the completion of the urban railway No.1 of Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien in Ho Chi Minh city. According to the project management authority, the package will build the four-basement Ben Thanh central station and a 515-meter tunnel from Ben Thanh station to Opera House station under Le Loi street. It also includes 3 ventilation towers and 6 entrances to the Ben Thanh station. 


 
Metro line Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien is 19.7 kilometers long and has a total investment of 2.49 billion USD, funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), construction began in August 2012, and the project's various packages have been implemented with good quality. The package No.2 constructs 17.1 kilometers of elevated section, 11 stations, and the depot area of Long Binh, about 63 percent of its work is completed. The package No.3 focuses on purchasing and installing equipment, wagons, locomotives, tracks, and maintenance facilities, with 11 percent completed. Meanwhile, the package No.1B builds an underground section from Opera House station to Ba Son station, with 38 percent completed.

In package 1A of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro line project, Thien An Construction and Mechanical Co., Ltd. is honored to participate in the construction items of D800 & D1200 intermediate piles (bored piles) and intermediate walls.
