The progress of Thu Thiem 2 Bridge construction project is falling further behind schedule due to delays in site clearance.

Construction of Thu Thiem 2 bridge began in 2015, with an initial target completion date of 2018, however the project faced delays in site clearance and wasn't finished. The 885.7-meter cable-stayed bridge stretches across the Saigon River, featuring a main support tower reaching 113 meters and offering six lanes for traffic flow. The Thu Thiem 2 bridge connects Ton Duc Thang street on the District 1 side and links to the Thu Thiem new urban area on the District 2 side.
The VND3.08 trillion (US$133.4 million) project is expected to significantly improve traffic flow between downtown Ho Chi Minh City and District 2, easing congestion on the Saigon River Tunnel and Saigon Bridge, the two current major traffic arteries. While initial calculations by Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee and the project’s investor Dai Quang Minh Corporation anticipated completion in September 2021.
A section of Ton Duc Thang Street in District 1 is currently closed for pier construction. Progress remains slow, with only 60% completed, primarily on the District 2 side. Construction of the bridge deck has stalled at the Saigon River's midpoint due to pending site clearance on the opposite bank. Faced with these delays, state auditors have recommended the HCM City People's Committee revise the project deadline once more. The city administration has also requested that relevant agencies expedite site clearance and technical infrastructure relocation to facilitate a swift handover to the investor.
